Engineer - Is it a professional job with moderate quality of life?

Engineers nowadays -

1) Someone work very hard without OT.
2) Someone work very hard to get increment, which is not enough for inflation (House Price + Food Price + Petrol Price Inflation) in city life.
3) Someone work very hard to get "You're Doing Good Job", A Praise without increase living standard.
4) Someone work very hard just for living normal.
5) Someone work very hard, but can't even give a good pocket money to parent.
6) Someone work very hard but when you getting older, "WHAT DO I GET AFTER WORK FOR 7-10 years?"

Capitalist/Investor nowadays:-
Simple Math.
Capital = 150k X 1.25^10 = 1,396k
Net Income P.A = ~104k (with zero tax)

Smart investor can sit @home, enjoy 104k p.a income while workers, work very hard, but they don't get what they want.

Global Stock Market Outlook

"Invest with good risk management" is part of my investment strategy. This week, market is bullish. It sounds bad to me this round. It should be the early stage of "bear" market.

We should able to see China Successfully on Soft-Landing in this bear market and create another short term crisis to Global economy.

Remember : China has strong impact to global economy nowadays. See the history (2008-2009)....

Stock Lobang : Nice View ...

A few readers asked me why is it that the market are still going up despite what we are hearing everyday. Well, if you believe what the press is saying, then if the market is up, that means that the market players are optimistic about the current situation. When the market goes down, then the press will say that they are worried and concerned about the whole situation. This is especially so when you watch the CNA morning show. You can almost confirm what the presenter will say after looking at how the US market has closed and how Japan market has opened.

To me, I believe that as much information, expectation and forecast have already been factored into the market. Like what I stated in the blog many times before, the market is made up of many players, and it is mainly the Big Boys that determine and decide where and how the market will behave in any circumstances.

If the market continues to perform well in the coming days to weeks, then you will read from the press that the market choose to ignore the gloom and doom for a while and stage a year-end rally.

If you look closely, we can have a dire future but the market can still surge on, as it is not what we want or hope for the market that matters, it is how the more powerful hands believe that matters.

That is why it is crucial to know what they are doing and following them through the trend and drop off with them when the tide turns. I am doing so with my trustworthy charts and of course, the experience and knowledge gained and work-on throughout all these years of interaction with Mr Market.

How Bailout Works for us?

It is a slow day in a little Greek Village. The rain is beating down and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit. On this particular day a rich German tourist is driving through the village, stops at the local hotel and lays a €100 note on the desk, telling the hotel owner he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.

The owner gives him some keys and as soon as the visitor has walked upstairs, the hotelier grabs the €100 note and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher. The butcher takes the €100 note and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pig farmer. The pig farmer takes the €100 note and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel. The guy at the Farmers' Co-op takes the €100 note and runs to pay his drinks bill at the taverna.

The publican slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking at the bar, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him "services" on credit. The hooker then rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill to the hotel owner with the €100 note.

The hotel proprietor then places the €100 note back on the counter so the rich traveller will not suspect anything. At that moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the €100 note, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town. No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole village is now out of debt and looking to the future with a lot more optimism.

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how the bailout package works.

There's an asnwer for each successful investment decision, but no right answer for relationship...

Relationship has no right/wrong answer for it, but when it come to investment, it gives the right/wrong answer for every decision.

We should have better control in investment compare to relationship. For those too focus on investment, please do care about your family members. Investment/ money is not everything, but you can't live without money.

Money can be part of your life, not all of your life.

Are you a good gambler?

Good investors—and good gamblers too, for that matter—practice risk control. Whether through careful use of position sizing, diversification, hedging, keeping cash in reserve, or even tools such as stop loss orders, they have processes in place that prevent an investing mistake from turning into a catastrophic loss they may never recover from.

Investment Advice on Oct 2011

Investors should be preparing for greater stresses to come. One of the golden rules of sucessful investing is to know when to stay out of the markets. Successful investors/traders spend more than 85% of their time on sidelines and wait for their chances. Avoiding losing trade is key to overall profit. Confused traders should perhaps take a step back from trading and let the comission-hungry hooligans fight for their scraps.
My advice is pretrend to act stupid and stay out this summer and come back whenever you're ready to brace for more volatility down the road. Fasten your seat belts.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc: Share buyback !

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Berkshire Hathaway Inc.,  BRK.B +5.91% the conglomerate run by investor Warren Buffett, said on Monday that it will buy back some of its own shares at up to a 10% premium over book value at the time of purchase. "In the opinion of our Board and management, the underlying businesses of Berkshire are worth considerably more than this amount, though any such estimate is necessarily imprecise," the company said in a press release. Berkshire said that it will fund the buyback with cash on hand. "Repurchases will not be made if they would reduce Berkshire's consolidated cash equivalent holdings below $20 billion. Financial strength and redundant liquidity will always be of paramount importance at Berkshire," the firm concluded.

Potential Recession Minimum @1086 pts

Potential Recession Minimum at 1086 pts. To gauge how much more the KLCI has to fall, we look at the historical trading range of the KLCI PER in Figure 2. With the KLCI traditionally trading between 13 to 19x PER, we can see that only in severe situations will the PER drop lower such as in the period between Sep 2008 to Dec 2008 when global credit markets froze after the Lehman crisis. At that point of time, the KLCI traded slightly below 10x PER. Extrapolating a 10x PER against our 2012 KLCI forecasts, we derive a 1086 pts potential recession minimum for the KLCI.

Weekly Investment Note

Buy during periods of pessimism and low prices; sell during periods of optimism and high prices. - Benjamin Graham

Abnormally good or abnormally bad conditions do not last forever. This is true not only of general business but of particular industries as well. Corrective forces are often set in motion which tend to restore profits where they have disappeared, or to reduce them where they are excessive in relation to capital.

The best way to invest for working class

I'm a working professional working class, who work 8-9 hours per day. There're not many times for me to do stock research and monitor the stock price actively on daily basic.

Refer to Warren Buffet, he prefer to "BUY and Hold Forever". I guess, this is the best way to invest in stock market without spending too much times on emotional and price movement.

One of my top holding in KLSE - BOUSTEAD Holdings Bhd. I just buy and hold for almost 2 years. I never thought of selling it. I just feel relax on quarterly dividend and their business performance.

There're no secret formula in investing. I would say, you can be best investor if you analyze the business as a businessmen and foreseen the future.

Warren Buffet Buy BAC's preferred share

Bank of America: I Don't Want to Buy it if You Don't Want to Buy it

Do you remember a time when you were a child and you wanted to do something but your mom prevented you from doing it? Then, you responded, "Mom, but John is doing it. Why can't I do it?" your mother responded, "If John jumped off of the top of a building, would you follow him?" What a great lesson this has been for me.

Unfortunately, the majority of people never learned this lessons that their mothers tried to teach them. Instead, they keep following others, refusing to think for themselves. However, this time around, they are too old to have their mothers follow them around and prevent them from doing stupid things like giving their wealth away by selling dirt cheap stocks just because other people are selling them. It becomes even more ridiculous - they graduated from following other people to following brainless computers who are responsible for many of the trades on the exchanges.

They only want to buy stocks of companies when others want to buy these stocks. The perfect example of this is the stock of Bank of America (BAC). In January 2011, the company's stock reached over $15 per share. By August 2011, the stock price declined to about $6 per share, which represents a 60 percent decline from January's price levels.

Today, the white knight, Warren Buffett from Omaha, Nebraska, came to the rescue of investors by buying preferred shares in Bank of America. Investors were thrilled by sending the stock price 20 percent higher to nearly $9 per share during the first few minutes of trading. If Buffett wants to buy Bank of America, then they want to buy Bank of America. It must be a good investment now.

Then, the media got involved. With the constant battle for viewers' attention to satisfy its advertising clients, they got a break. Instead of searching for attention-grabbing events such as earthquakes, Libya's unrests, Greece's debt problems, the media chose to talk about Buffett's investment in Bank of America. But the media spoiled the party for the investors/followers who never learned the lesson from their mothers. It reminded them that Buffett is a long-term investor and although he purchased shares of Bank of America, it does not mean that the bank's problems are gone, and the stock price might go lower. The media gave examples of how after Buffett purchased shares of Goldman Sachs (GS) in a similar fashion, the shares declined 50 percent shortly after Buffett's purchase.

With this "revolutionary" information, some started dumping shares immediately. Other investors did exactly what they are best at - following others. Consequently, the stock price began its decline, losing the morning gains.

If you think that Bank of America is a good investment at these price levels, then buy. If you think it is a bad investment, then don't buy it. But don't blindly follow other investors. Remember to do your own thinking. Bank of America will succeed or fail with or without Buffett's involvement. He does not run the company and is nothing more than an outside investor.

Speculator vs Investor

"People who invest make money for themselves; people who speculate make money for their brokers.”

- Jason Zweig

INVESTORS

An investor would carry out background research to:
1. Understand the company’s business.
2. Protect from losses by buying company stock when it’s undervalued.
3. Avoid succumbing to “herd mentality” by buying into hotly-tipped stocks.
The investor would do well, look forward to the assurance of adequate returns and safety principal.

SPECULATORS

Speculators are akin to gambling which carries high risk. And if you consider the matter carefully, would you want to put your hard-earned income to such an uncertain outcome?
Normally, what they buy:
1. A whispered “hot tip” that a particular stock will soon rise in value.
2. Without doing any research on the company, its past performance, or its dividend yield.
3. Media hype on the stock.

beautiful words

Someone has written these beautiful words. Must read and try to understand the deep meaning of it.

They are like the ten commandments to follow in life all the time.

1] Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout.

2] So a Car's WINDSHIELD is so large & the Rear view Mirror is so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, Look Ahead and Move on.
3] Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write.
4] All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don't worry, they can't last long either.
5] Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a Base of Gold!

6] Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!
7] When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.
8] A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vision!"
9] When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.
10] WORRYING does not take away tomorrow's TROUBLES, it takes away today's PEACE.

Singapore has jumped three places to become the sixth most expensive city

17-June-2011
Singapore has jumped three places to become the sixth most expensive city and third most expensive country in Asia, according to ECA international's latest cost of living survey. The high cost of living in Singapore was explained by the continued strength of the Singapore Dollar against major currencies.

It is now more expensive for international assigned to live in than Hong Kong, New York, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Shanghai. Good & Services commonly purchased by international assignees now cost almost 3% more in Singapore than in Hong Kong. Just a year ago, they cost 5% more in Hong Kong than Singapore.

The Highest FD interest in Malaysia (26/6/2011) - 4.7%(annual) for 5 years

FD Savings Product(MBSB):-
Exclusive 5

Tenor Months                          Half Yearly Interest% Payment
         60                                              4.70

Product Link :- http://www.mbsb.com.my/deposits_fixed.html

Nowadays, interest is increasing. It could be a good idea for those who prefer low risk savings plan to lock the high interest rate at this year before crisis "return". I would recommend this product because it gives the highest interest rate compare to bank.

Any Risk?
If you read the MBSB company background, this company is one of subsidary under EPF. I personally think the risk is extremely low unless EPF/KWSP collapse :)

Galaxy Macau @15 May 2011

Galaxy Macau™ to open on 15 May 2011

Eagerly awaited destination resort projected to be a major attraction for millions of Macau visitors every year
(MACAU & HONG KONG, 10 March 2011) – Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”, or “the Group” – HKEx stock code: 00027) today announced that Galaxy Macau, the newest and most eagerly anticipated integrated destination resort in the Cotai entertainment area, will open on 15 May, starting the countdown toward Macau’s biggest opening for 2011.
Dr. Lui Che Woo, Founder and Chairman, Galaxy Entertainment Group, said, “The Macau SAR Government’s stated goal, in accordance with the 12th Five-Year Plan, is to build for its economic future by diversifying its leisure and tourism industry. We believe Galaxy Macau will lead this development by offering what has been missing so far from the local integrated property market.
“From the beginning, our vision has been to develop and operate a resort that delivers both international-caliber standards but also captures the heartfelt service culture and unique flavor of Asia – something we call ‘World Class, Asian Heart’. This is especially critical for success in a market where Asian travelers are so dominant. In this way, we can make guests from around the region feel right at home, whilst at the same time provide an authentic Asian resort experience for visitors from around the world as well.”
Over 97% of Macau’s almost 25 million visitors in 2010 were from Asia, according to Macau Government Tourist Office statistics. Visitors from mainland China and Hong Kong, which are considered the primary feeder markets in the immediate term, together totaled 22 million or 81% in 2010.
“Today, we are very excited that we can now begin counting down to Galaxy Macau’s official opening on 15 May, after years of inspired creation and hard work backed with a firm conviction that a project rooted in Asian ideals and delivered by Asian people could achieve the highest international standards,” said Mr. Francis Lui, Vice Chairman, Galaxy Entertainment Group during a day of media events held for Hong Kong and Macau journalists. “This announcement wouldn’t be possible without the contributions of so many people, especially our talented and dedicated staff and our esteemed partners. We’re all very excited to open our doors to Macau and the world and show everyone what the ‘World Class, Asian Heart’ of Galaxy Macau is all about.”
Accommodation at Galaxy Macau will be provided by three iconic Asian hotel brands: It will include the 250 suites and 10 floating villas of the Banyan Tree Macau; the 500-room Hotel Okura Macau; and the 1,500-room Galaxy Hotel, which will become GEG’s flagship Cotai hotel. The three hotels will be available to guests on the opening day. Galaxy Macau also marks the entry into the Macau market for both the Singapore-based Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts and Okura Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Japan’s most prominent hotel company.
Banyan Tree also brings with it the first Banyan Tree Spa in the Pearl River Delta. At 2,800 square meters, the Banyan Tree Spa Macau – the biggest in the Banyan Tree group – will include 21 treatment rooms as well as a private spa floor for its hotel guests.
At a total investment of HK$14.9 billion, the 550,000-square-meter Galaxy Macau is the first truly integrated resort property of its kind because it is the only one in Macau with real resort features. Most prominent of these is the property’s spectacular 52,000-square-meter Grand Resort Deck, where a 350-ton white sand beach frames the 4,000-square-meter Skytop Wave Pool – the world’s largest of its kind – generating waves that will reach as high as 1.5 meters. Several pools, tropical and Japanese gardens, a traditional Japanese tea pavilion and private cabanas will dot the Grand Resort Deck area, making it perfect for private and corporate functions.
Upon opening Galaxy Macau will feature more than 50 international dining outlets. True to its focus on providing an authentic Asian resort experience, more than half of them will serve Asian cuisines, making it the widest such selection in Macau under one roof. The selection makes it possible for visitors to eat at Galaxy Macau once a week for a year and never eat at the same restaurant twice.
Rounding out Galaxy Macau’s resort offering will be extensive in-house entertainment across multiple live stages and clubs including the ultra-exclusive China Rouge, a hybrid private membership club, performance theatre, bar and restaurant conceptualized by renowned Hong Kong designer Alan Chan to evoke a modern vision of 1930s Shanghai. It is anticipated that China Rouge will instantly become one of the trendiest nightspots in Macau, drawing discerning clientele from around the region. Of particular note, Galaxy Macau is proud to announce its plans for a 9-screen, 3D, multi-function cinema theatre to follow later this year. Open to Galaxy Macau guests and the local community, the theatre will be state-of-the-art and the first of its kind in Macau. The property will also feature a retail boulevard offering a unique shopping experience of Asian as well as international brands.

Bank of America : A cheap business? Getting Cheaper?

There are three bad developments for BAC.
1)The resignation of CFO Charles Noski. Yes, the CFO resigned for family illness reasons, but nonetheless this raises concerns at the bank. Prominent short seller Jim Chanos noted that short sellers "love to see" key executives leave a company.

2)Bank of America may be understating its exposure to repurchase requests on bad home loans. Bank of America claims that the losses will not exceed $10 billion, but many analysts say the number could be $30 billion as Bank of America swallowed thousands of dubious Countrywide mortgages.

3)The foreclosure issue continues to drag on. Bank of America assumed the troubled mortgage portfolio of Countrywide Financial which is a continued source of weakness for the company. Mark Hanson, one of the most reputable mortgage analysts in the country, noted that it might take eight more years for the shadow inventory to clear!

Is this a best buy? I would like to bet on this counter (Be greedy when bad news :) but, not 100% of porfolio in this counter. I prefer 8-10% of my total capital in this counter at this moment unless there's something attract me to buy/accumulate more shares.

BAC of America : Cut 1500 jobs

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/bank-of-america-reportedly-to-cut-1500-jobs-2011-04-14?link=MW_latest_news

Comments :-
Now, i'm start looking for best entry point to BAC on second half 2011. Currently, my CFD position is ZERO on BAC. I predict next 6-9 months, the market is going to be very volatile with high oil price and commodities price. Consumer will try to reduce their spending in this senario.

As CFD investor, i would rather protect my capital and looking for best entry point. Try to avoid any short position in commodities/oil related stocks. It's very hard to predict the Hyperinflation trend at this moment.
Raise cash is the best option now if you have limited capital and plan for big HUNTING on second half with CFD.

My First Home Scheme Malaysia

Last week, Malaysia Government unveiled the My First Home Scheme in an effort to help 35-years old earning less than RM3,000 a month to own their first house. While this scheme would definitely help to increase home ownership, serious pitfalls lurks behind.

The Scheme might encourage young peopple to buy houses when they're not finacially ready, explosing the economy to undesirabe debt & the dire consequences that come with it. The recent US-led financial crisis and other property bubble  busts have clearly hightlighted the danger of high leverage. Instead of promoting a house ownership scheme, it's more prudent to have a housing policy of ensuring that everyone who need a place to stay has a place to stay.

Suggestion:-
If Government implement 50% on property capital gain, this will control property price effectively.

Bionas - Murabahah Investment Programme

Bionas eyes GBP500m London listing

Bionas Group is looking at raising up to GBP500m from the proposed listing of its subsidiary Bionas Fuel (UK) Ltd on London’s Alternative Investment Market by mid 2011. The Malaysia-based company plants jatropha fruits and produces jatropha additives to make biodiesel. The IPO proceeds will mainly be used to expand its jatropha plantings in Africa. The fruit is not edible, unlike conventional vegetable oils used for biodiesel, and thus does not face the food versus fuel dilemma. Barclays will be handling the IPO.

A Successful Hedge Fund Manager : Jim Simons

Profile :
James Harris "Jim" Simons (born 1938) is an American hedge fund manager, mathematician, and philanthropist.
In 1982, Simons founded Renaissance Technologies, a private investment firm based in New York with over $15 billion under management; Simons is still at the helm, as CEO, of what is now one of the world's most successful hedge funds. Simons is estimated to be worth about $8.5 billion.
Simons lives with his wife in Manhattan and Long Island, and is the father of three.

Simons shuns the limelight and rarely gives interviews, citing Benjamin the Donkey in Animal Farm for explanation: "God gave me a tail to keep off the flies. But I'd rather have had no tail and no flies."[4] On October 10, 2009, Simons announced he would retire on January 1, 2010 but remain at Renaissance as nonexecutive chairman.

Renaissance Technologies
For more than two decades, Simons' Renaissance Technologies' hedge funds, which trade in markets around the world, have employed mathematical models to analyze and execute trades, many automated. Renaissance uses computer-based models to predict price changes in easily-traded financial instruments. These models are based on analyzing as much data as can be gathered, then looking for non-random movements to make predictions.
Renaissance employs many specialists with non-financial backgrounds, including mathematicians, physicists and statisticians. The firm's latest fund is the Renaissance Institutional Equities Fund (RIEF).[8] RIEF has historically trailed the firm's more well-known Medallion fund, a separate fund that only contains the personal money of the firm's executives.

"It's startling to see such a highly successful mathematician achieve success in another field," says Edward Witten, professor of physics at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ, and considered by many of his peers to be the most accomplished theoretical physicist alive... (Gregory Zuckerman, "Heard on the Street", Wall Street Journal, July 1, 2005).

In 2006 Simons was named Financial Engineer of the Year by the International Association of Financial Engineers. In 2007 he was estimated to have personally earned $2.8 billion,[10] $1.7 billion in 2006,[11] $1.5 billion in 2005, (the largest compensation among hedge fund managers that year) and $670 million in 2004.
Observers have been wondering how Renaissance's in-house Medallion Fund has managed to continue to outperform the stock market handily while funds open to outside investors have performed miserably. The violation could be related to the Nova Fund, a hedge fund that had very high returns which was mysteriously subsumed by the internal Medallion Fund.

FACEBOOK IPO

Facebook has taken over the world as the social networking giant since its launch in 2004. CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg is now a billionaire on paper and recent funding of $500 million from Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS) put the valuation at a staggering $50 billion. Suddenly, the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) investment of $240 million for a 1.6% stake and about $15 billion valuation seems like a steal. Zuckerberg has said an IPO will be inevitable, but the time frame is ‘later,’ and he has tried to keep the act up that Facebook will not file for an IPO this year. The SEC is inquiring about its sales of shares for insiders and over its finances due to the number of holders; the SEC requires companies with 500 or more shareholders to make financial filings almost the same as if they were a public company. In the end, whether Zuckerberg wants to have it public or not, you could argue that Facebook is already partly public.

What is a CFD?

A CFD ( Contract For Difference) is an agreement to exchange the difference in value of a particular share between the time at wich a contract is opened and the time at which it is closed.

There're 2 top CFD providers in Singapore :
1) IG Markets ( http://www.igmarkets.com.sg/)
2) CMC Markets ( http://www.cmcmarkets.com.sg/ )

I have both accounts. I personally prefer IG Markets, where it provides the best user-friendly trading platform with cheap transaction fee.

Long/Short Strategy :-
With CFDs you can buy or sell at the quoted price, to profit from rising or falling markets. Other methods of shorting shares are often inconvenient and expensive.

Advice :-
Geared products like CFDs can help you make the most effective use of your investment capital, but it is important to appreciate that the amount you could lose relative to your initial investment is greater for geared products than for non-geared products.
